Today's reading: Deut. 5-6; Ps. 43; Mark 14
Most of the time we have to work really hard to get ahead in life and make a way for ourselves—a process which builds perseverance and character. There are other times when God just drops a huge blessing in our lap that totally takes us by surprise.
I love this promise in Deut 6:10-12: “When God, your God, ushers you into the land He promised through your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you, you're going to walk into large, bustling cities you didn't build, well-furnished houses you didn't buy, come upon wells you didn't dig, vineyards and olive orchards you didn't plant. When you take it all in and settle down, pleased and content, make sure you don't forget how you got there—God brought you out of slavery in Egypt.”
Isn’t that great! God rolls out the red carpet and ushers us into an abundance of blessing. He goes before us and prepares the way for new jobs, new relationships, new places to live—there’s no limit to what He can dream up for us just because He loves us. Surprise blessings are His specialty!
Lord, we will always remember how You brought us out of bondage, captivity and lack, into freedom, contentment, and fulfillment. We thank you for your extravagant provision and love to us.
