Today's reading: Num. 17-18; Ps. 29; Mark 4
I've decided I want to be someone who receives the Word of God, lets it take deep roots in my life, resists the things that hinder its growth and waits as it becomes very fruitful. Every new seed of the Word that gets sown into our lives goes through this process. This makes me take a new posture while I'm reading the Word or when I'm listening to a sermon. If a seed is being thrown my direction, I want to make sure it's going to bear fruit! What seeds have been thrown at you recently? Where are you in the process?
Lord, help me to receive your Word and to let it grow in my life. Help me not to allow the cares of the world, the deceitfulness of riches and other lusts to choke what I've received out of my life. I want to live a fruitful life based on Your Word, not on fear and greed. Amen.

Harrison that word is good. The idea of cultivating the soil of my heart came to mind when reading Mark 4. We need to make sure that our soil is rich, fertile and plentiful in nurtrients so that we can produce fruit. You can go to church Sunday after Sunday and never experience the beauty of a harvest in your life if you do not cultivate the ground of your soul. Did you know that when soil becomes compacted nutrients and water are unable to penatrate it? Sometimes soil has to be turned. Sometimes soil has to be aerated in order to bring it to the point of fruit producing capability. Sometimes additives like "miracle grow" are incorporated into the soil. Did you know that Miracle Grow feeds plants and prevents weeds? I believe God does the same with us. We need to make sure our heart has not become "compacted" by laziness, unforgiveness, grumbling and complaining and unthankfulness. We must be diligent to do this so that when God is throwing seeds our way, our heart can be penetrated. We need to keep a clean heart so that miracles can grow in our life; and weeds will not choke out all of the blessings God has for us.
