Today's Reading: Is. 57-59; Ps. 103; 2 Pet. 3
In Psalm 103, David’s joyful prayer is a perfect example of how to approach the Lord. David commands his soul -- the center of his emotions, desires and attitude -- to act: BLESS, or “affectionately praise” the Lord. Why? Because it is impossible to stay in a mindset of defeat if our WHOLEHEARTED confession is that of the promises and faithfulness of God’s character. David’s confession results in a total body – mindset response.
"Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits..." (Ps. 103:1-2, AMP)
Struggling with sin – in Him, we are forgiven. Suffering from disease – in Him, we are healed (v2). Feeling weary or out of the game – He redeems our life and renews our youth (v.4-5). Oppressed – He executes righteousness (v.6).
No matter what his “soul” was encountering that day, David countered it with how God was enough. God could meet that need. God is enough.
Also, we are reminded in 2 Peter 3, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
Lord, today, I choose to BLESS you. I wholeheartedly, affectionately give you my praise - You are worthy of it! I confess that your timing is perfect. Your word and promises are trustworthy. Guard my mouth and my heart, my soul, so I may walk in freedom today. Amen.
