Today's Reading: Is. 43-45; 1 Pet. 4
Well, today is the day. I can't tell you how excited I am for this fall time when we'll be launching out new, theme-based LifeGroups all over the DC area that will reach new people groups and connect the people of Capital City Church in an even greater way. And, today is the day that applications for leaders and hosts with new ideas are due. What an awesome scripture in today's reading to encourage us as we take a step forward to invite others into our homes and use our gifts to minister to them:
1 Peter 4:9-10
Welcome people into your home and don’t grumble about it. Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.
Practical application? Use your gifts in the service of others by applying to lead or host a LifeGroup today!
Jesus, we thank You that every one of us have been blessed with a wonderful gift from You. Help us to use our gifts well to serve other people. Amen!

A very timely passage Harrison!
In 1 Peter when Paul writes “therefore since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.” I believe he is preparing the church to suffer for doing good, unjustly as Christ did. I don’t see a lot of Christians “suffering unjustly” in my community in terms of ridicule or imprisonment, but I do see them forgoing earthly pleasures and passing benefits that others enjoy. This verse helps me remember that we practice spiritual disciplines because if Jesus is truly our god, we make choices everyday that honor him, often hard choices that involve suffering or sacrifice or the forgoing of what may seem our “rights” or “due reward.” Spiritual disciplines help us live in the mindset that “suffering in the body” is part of what choosing Christ as Lord will require.
