Today's reading: 1 Ki. 15; 2 Chr. 13-14; Phil. 4

"For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]." (Philipians 4:8, Amplified)

Fix your minds on them. Fixation - a preoccupation or obsession; the activity of fastening something securely in position.

Think of how our lives would be changed if we were fixated on thoughts that were kind, true, and gracious instead of worry and negativity. Have you ever noticed how worries seem to multiply when you spend too much time thinking about them? God desires us to live in peace, free from worry. He desires us to walk in truth and grace daily.

Lord, we pray that you would help us to become fixated on your word. That we would daily choose to meditate on truth, kindness, grace, and excellence. Thank you for the freedom that your word brings. Amen.

How cool is that your sorority memorized scripture that helped shape you!
I love the 4:8 principle, it has become one of my favorite books.  It highlights this prinicple in more detail, I would highly recommend it as good summer reading!  I think I am reading it for the 4th time this summer.  I want that fixation to change the way my synapses fire, and the way my brain thinks!

Thanks Ashlynn, loved the def of fixation too! xx
This is so true, Ashlynn. Thank you for highlighting these words out of all the readings today. I first learned this passage as part of my college sorority's chapter meeting 'ritual'. At that point I didn't even know it was scripture. Later, when I became a Christian, I remembered these words because the principles they contain had stuck with me. How wonderful God is! He works in our lives even when we don't think we want Him to. Never stop telling people about Jesus because what you say will 'stick' with them.
