Today's reading: 2 Sam. 17; Ps. 71; Mt. 26

In today’s reading we see the extent of Christ’s heart of obedience and submission to the Father. In Matthew 26, Jesus is in the Gethsemane garden and He is fully aware of all the darkness, pain, and suffering that is waiting for Him through the cross. Yet, in this time of darkness Jesus’ two prayers are not ones of rebellion, despair, confusion, or anger. They are prayers that reflect a heart that is fully yielded and submitted to the will of the Father. Jesus ends His prayer with the statement, “Yet not as I will, but as you will”. What areas in our lives can we follow the footsteps of Jesus and ask the Father, “yet not as I will, but as you will”? Will we choose to posture our hearts and minds in obedience to God and allow His perfect will to be accomplished in our lives?

Jesus, we thank you for living out the true meaning of a heart that is submitted to the Father. For our lives today and future decisions we ask, “yet not as I will, but as you will”. Thank you Lord for your perfect plan, purpose, and will in each of our lives.
