We believers tend to vacillate between extremes. Sometimes, like the Pharisees, we devote ourselves to empty religious exercises. At other times, like David, we lounge instead of charging into battle like we ought, thereby opening ourselves to temptation.

Immersion in God's word is a good medicine for this disease. Scripture constantly reminds us in different ways that God's primary concern is justice, compassion, faithfulness and righteous living.
God, let us always have your word before our eyes. Let it keep us constant in the things that really matter to you.
