Today's reading: 2 Sam. 4-5; Ps. 139; Mt. 16

David knew that he had been annointed by God via Samuel to be king over Israel and more importantly, David knew that it was God who would make it happen. This is a pretty intense lesson on why we should yield to God's timing and not try to make things happen on our own.

When you think about the infinite wisdom, extravagant love, and omnipotence of our Lord, who better than Him to define when things should happen in our lives? Who better than Him to order events and determine our steps?

"Oh yes, You shaped me first inside, then out; You formed me in my mother's womb. I thank you, High God—You're breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, You know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before YouThe days of my life all prepared before I'd even lived one day." (Pslams 139:13-16, MSG - Emphasis mine)

Lord, we thank you for your patience and forgiveness when we try to take the reins of our lives. Continue to guide us and teach us in your sovereign ways. Help us to understand that your timing and your plans are always better. Amen.
